This issue is special in many ways. Please look at the pictures and our country's first-generation pharmacologists, many of whom have rendered great service to this field. These rare photographs, where many are together, are 'must keep.' So this issue is a good archive for many who have studied under, or were connected with, or were inspired by, these great men and women who were in the field of teaching and research in the area at pharmacology. I thank Dr. Prakash Diwan for bringing them together and honoring them in a grand way during The Southern Region Pharmacology Conference held at Hyderabad. The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Rajashekara Reddy, was kind enough to attend the function and confer these honors on these great personalities. Dr. Diwan proposed that such events should be held at the national level also. We must honor contributing pharmacologists every year during the national conference. I also take this opportunity to thank all senior pharmacologists of India for their selfless contribution in the form of teaching and research. You all laid a great foundation for the future generation of pharmacologists, who will immensely contribute to the development of medicines in this country.

This issue is also special for another reason. For the first time, we are publishing the workshop report in this issue. The pre-confidence workshop was held during the 40 th Annual Conference of the Indian Pharmacological Society, 2007, Chandigarh. The workshop aimed at providing up-to-date information on basic concepts of scientific research and communication. This event was well attended. I take this opportunity to thank Dr. Jagdeesh, who masterminded this event from USA.
