Objective: To study the therapeutic efficacy of histone H1 as an antitumour agent in rats. Methods: Animals were induced for breast cancer using 9, 10 dimethyl benz(a) anthracane (DMBA). Histone H1 was injected intratumourally in experimental breast tumour. Tumour volume was measured after treatment and regression was observed. The levels of carcino embryonic antigen (CEA) were estimated using ELISA kit. Results: The animals bearing tumour had high levels of carcino embryonic antigen but the levels decreased following treatment. Conclusion: Histone H1 mediated cytotoxicity could prove useful for therapy for mammary carcinoma.
