Changes of epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine in mice brain and liver and 5-hydroxytryptamine in mice brain following treatment with ochratoxin A and citrinin

1. The effects of 6 weekly injections of ochratoxin A (5 mg/kg, ip) and citrinin (20 mg/kg. ip) were studied on the following indices of mice: epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine in brain and liver and 5- hydroxytryptamine in brain. 2. These mycotoxins resulted in a significant decrease in dopamine and increase in epinephrine, norepinephrine and 5-hydroxytryptamine content of brain. 3.These mycotoxins also resulted in significant increase in epinephrine, norepinephrine and dopamine in liver. 4. The increased concentrations of the neurotransmitters in mouse brain might be associated with CNS depressant action induced by mycotoxins.
