Dr. H. Venkata Krishna Bhatt joined me in the Department of Pharmacology, Kurnool Medical College, in 1966 as an Assistant Research Officer, ICMR. He coauthored 5 papers in Foreign Journals and 11 in Indian Journals. He was sincere and efficient, working late at night. He was selected as a Research Officer, ICMR, and joined National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH), Ahmedabad, in 1972. He was awarded Shakuntala Amir Chand Award of ICMR (1980). He obtained PhD from Institute of Physiology, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Prague, and also from Gujarat University.

From NIOH, he presented research papers at several conferences of Physiology, Pharmacology, National Academy of Medical Science (NAMS), and Science Congress. His research publications and papers presented at Conferences (506) are listed in ResearchGate with 518 citations. He received Shriram Memorial prize (NAMS), Hari Om Ashram Alembic Research award (2002), Dr. B. C. Roy National Award (2004), FAMS, FZS, and Fellowships of several academic bodies.

He was an active member of the Indian Pharmacological Society, executive committee member 1982, and city branch up to 1986.

He retired as a Senior Grade Deputy Director, NIOH, Ahmedabad, in 2002. However, he continued academic activities presenting papers. He went to Faridabad to attend a conference on October 28, 2014, where he passed away suddenly, an abrupt end to an active career. He is mourned by several Biological Scientists and associates. I personally grieve more as he started his research career with me.

He left behind wife Mrs. Geetha Bhatt and two brilliant daughters – Vaishnavi, BE MBA PhD and Shambhavi, BE ME, both well settled.
