1. Penbutolol, a new, centrally-active (-blocking agent has been studied for its interaction with alcohol. 2. Alcohol (75(proof whisky) as 0.8 mg/kg was administered with 20 mg. penbutolol or placebo in double-blind crossover to 6 volunteers. 3. Psychomotor tests of performance did not reveal any significant penbutolol-alcohol interaction. 4. Peak changes in psychomotor performance coincided under both treatment conditions with peak serum alcohol levels.
