1. A double blind non crossover, placebo-controlled trial was done to assess the efficacy of Septilin, an Ayurvedic preparation, in comparison with chlorpheniramine maleate (CPM). 2. Group 1 (n=lOO) was administered Septilin 2 tabs t. i. d. with a placebo of CPM and Group II (n =90) was administered CPM (25 mg) t. i. d. with a placebo of Septilin. 3. Based on clinical assessment and patients self assessment score the two treatments brought about relief to the same extent. Septilin in a dose of 2 tabs t. i. d. was well tolerated.

1. The antihypertensive effect of metoprolol and pindolol were compared in 10 young and middle aged patients of essential hypertension. 2. Patients received blind placebo therapy two weeks before the trial commenced. 3. Two groups of patients were randomely assigned to metoprolol (50 mg) 0 D. and pindolol (5 mg) B. D. treatments respectively and then crossed over for comparative evaluation for a total period of eight weeks. 4. Both treatments significantly reduced lying and standing, systolic and diastolic blood pressures as compared to placebo. 5. Comparing the treatments between zero to eight weeks in both groups, fall in blood pressure was highly significant in patients receiving pindolol in comparison to patients receiving metoprolol. 6. Blood pressure was better sustained and side-effects were less with pindolol than with metoprolol.

Compound AK-3, 2 (dimethyl amino acetyl) amino-5-propyl-1, 3, 4-thiadiazoles was found to possess potent spasmolytic activity. 4. Compound AK-5, 2 (diethyl amino acetyl) amino-5-ethyl 1, 3-4-thiadiazole was found to be an effective anti-inflammatory agent.

1. Two unusual cases of carbamazepine induced adverse reactions are reported. 2. In the present study ethinyl estradiol (EE) was administered chronically in dose of 1.5 mg/kg/day intramuscularly for 3 weeks and the sensitivity of isolated vas deferens of rat to various agonists was studied. 2. Chronic EE treatment significantly (P>0.05) decreased the EC50 values of norepinephrine (NE) and potassium chloride (KCl), while the EC50 values of acetylcholine, phenylephrine and methoxamine were unaltered. 3. Surgical denervation and acute in vitro pretreatment with cocaine (1 x 10-5M) of vas deferens, abolished the potentiating effects of chronic EE treatment on NE responses. 4. Phentolamine (1 x 10-6 ), a prototype alpha-blocker, also abolished the potentiating effects of EE treatment on KC1 responses. 5. It is concluded that chronic EE treatment of rat resulted in specific supersensitivity of vas deferens to NE, which is mediated through neuronal uptake blocking property.
