Dear authors, reviewers, and readers of Indian Journal of Pharmacology,
I am very delighted and it gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all with the new proactive editorial team for the official journal of our Indian Pharmacological Society. The achievement of our journal in last few decades is tremendous, and so, we would like to thank all our former editors for their support in achieving the same.
All have done a very admirable job in framing the journal and maintaining its place. The former chief editor Dr. Chetna Desai has tremendous appetite for hard work and acted with notable integrity and efficiency leveraging her understanding of the range of research methods and clinical issues. I know that the role of chief editor of a prestigious journal is a challenging job and keen attention is needed to maintain the tempo and even to progress. Therefore, I as a “chief editor” and our experienced editorial team will take care of new role with motivation, excitement, enthusiasm, and pinch of creativity.
In a nutshell, we would like to express our vision for the changing trends in the pharmacology in India and abroad, given the refined place to propound any swift or stringent changes under my supervision although Indian Journal of Pharmacology continues to uncover the recent facts to make full benefit to its readers. However we have decided to publish original articles in epidemiology, basic (experimental) and clinical research.
Pharmacology is now an integral subject/science in the medical field with clinicians and basic life sciences. The area of research is expanded in all the clinical departments with the molecular techniques to reveal the underneath truth of science. As a pharmacologist, we have variety of duties to perform in research as well as academic area like helping clinician to help their thought flourish from “bed to benchtop” and vice versa to helping need of us for a better patient care. Logically speaking, the pharmacologists have a wide role in research and development (R and D) from the target identification to lead findings to the clinical trials and may play a major role in the critical path of R and D of the new chemical entities. The new advancement and computer-assisted learning in the field are also marked as proteomics, genomics, and metabolomics in drug discovery and development, hence need to incorporate into our subject/field.
Therefore, we encourage the study from the original research articles with the molecular correlation and clinical outcome. The articles from preclinical and clinical are invited; however, the meta-analysis and systematic reviews constituting a significant important as subsection. Peer review will remain an integral component of our analysis for the submitted articles. Sometimes, the process of publication was criticized due to delayed decision making. We want to assure our readers, reviewers, and authors that these limitations will be managed by an effective and active editorial board/office. There is a strong consensus that articles accepted/rejected must be evaluated by the review committee and external referees. This process will explicit appraisal process and helps to provoke trust of the reader.
We are trying to simplify the process of review through the editorial board and then send it for critical evaluation by the review committee. Editorials or invited editorials and commentaries play a key role in exploring more dubious issues in a balanced way and will give an exploration for a new topic.
I am lucky to have a highly effective and active team in the editorial office and reviewers. The journal is supported by a stellar cast of experts as Scientific Advisory Chairman/Committee, International Advisory Board, encompassing people with the depth of knowledge and great understanding in research and pharmacology.
At last, we would like to thank our submitting authors, who have worked so hard and want to contribute to the scientific society with their work outcome and have chosen Indian Journal of Pharmacology as the journal they would like to publish in. Further, we would like to advice the authors who want to do an original research must take prior permission from the Institutional Review Board, Institutional Ethics Committee, or Institutional Animal Ethics Committee and report it in the material and method section of the article. In addition, who are involved in the clinical protocols must register their work in Clinical Trials Registry – India website (http://ctri.nic.in).
We acknowledge our experts and reviewers from different fields who are giving their valuable time to extract out the best for our own journal and working continuously for the Pharmacology. We really feel privileged and responsible of the assigned duties henceforth will take each and every effort to improve the journal level.
