Effect of allopurinol of infarct size in experimental myocardial infarction in dogs
Lal Avtar, Sharma Sita
1. The present study was designed to evaluate the ability of allopurinol to limit infarct size following permanent left coronary artery branch ligation in adult mongrel dogs.
2. The treated dogs received allopurinol 25 mg/kg body wt , 24 hours and 2 hours before coronary artery ligation.
3. The area at risk was visualised by methylene blue injected intraventricularly and infarct area was visualised by tripbenyl tetrazolium chloride staining.
4. Infarct size expressed as a percentage of risk zone was 76.54˝ 3.01 in control and 38.50˝ 4.28% in allopurinol group (p
